The Christmas market in Innsbruck with parents

Playing hide and seek at the Innsbruck Christmas market

Innsbruck is located in the Austrian alps and is the capital of the Tirol region. I’ve been to Innsbruck twice already. The last time was in December during Christmas season where we visited the famous Christkindlemarkt.

It was cold and there was snow on the ground. I like snow a lot. It’s weird stuff but great to play with. Papa makes balls and throws them at Mama.

When we got cold we just went to the market and got hot drinks. Mama and Papa got something they wouldn’t let me try. They called it Glühwein and Punsch. They also had really good food. I loved the sausages and the Kiachln, a deep fried bread with toppings. We need that stuff in Canada.

I love käsespätzle and Papa loves beer. Perfect combo.

The Austrians know how to cook I tell you. We went to eat at the Stiftskeller, a traditional restaurant. They had this dish called käsespätzle and I loved it. It’s the Austrian version of Mac and Cheese but better. The restaurant was nice. I waved at a lot of people and they all waved back. One lady had a dog.

The market also had a lot of people selling all kinds of things. Things to hang in a Christmas tree, clocks with birds in them, Christmas gifts and bacon. That last one seemed strange to me but I’m only a year old so what do I know. We bought ornaments for Opa, Oma, Pakke and Beppe. Custom made my a man who can write with fire.

There was a giant Chrismastree and a few guys showed up with very long pipes. Then they blew on them and this strange music came out. Those Austrians know how to cook but their musical taste is questionable.

Speaking of music. The market is in the old town with lots of beautiful buildings. This guy Mozart stayed here once. He was one of the Austrians who did know how to make good music. He started very young as well just like me and blogging.

Innsbruck is a lovely town and I hope I can come back one day to taste the Glühwein and Punsch.

Tips from Papa

Innsbruck is a great little town in the heart of Tirol. A perfect basecamp for skiing in the winter or exploring the Alps in the summer. The town has a great vibe, good restaurants and a beautiful old town.
